Product Launches

Imaje

Crayon Plus

Imaje has launched Crayon Plus—a new large character inkjet printer for the Indian market. Ideal for marking on secondary packages such as cartons, barrels and big containers, this printer will meet specific marking and coding needs of all manufacturing sectors like FMCG, pharma, food, automobile, textile and electronics.

Based on a technology called drop on demand (DOD), the printer offers various advantages to customers. Its no-contact marking technology ensures high-quality marking even if the printing surface is flat or irregular. Another advantage with this technology is that products are not damaged during marking operations. It is a compact and complete printer with a pre-pressurised ink container.

Crayon Plus can mark on porous as well as non porous surfaces such as paper, laminated paper, cardboard, plastic film, etc. It marks at a high speed—300 fpm, 90 m/min but the production line need not be slowed down because the products are marked as they are conveyed under the printhead jet.

The printer is fully programmable. It can print a manufacturing date and use-by date which changes automatically every day and even has a counter that tots up in real-time.

EPSON

Stylus C63

Epson has launched the Stylus C63 featuring the proprietary pigment-based DURABrite ink technology. This produces photo prints on plain paper that are visually vibrant and appealing. It also makes double-sided prints possible without the worry of bleed through.

DURABrite ink has water-resistant properties for both black and colour inks, as the pigment ink particles rest on the surface of the paper and are insoluble in water. The inks offer light resistance up to 80 years on speciality matte papers and up to 70 years on plain paper. This makes the printouts fade-proof. DURABRite is available in separate ink cartridges, which enables the user to replace only the ink cartridge that has run dry, thereby saving a large amount on maintenance.

The Stylus C63 has a print resolution of 5760x1440 dpi and prints up to 17 black and white pages, and nine colour pages a minute. The C63 boasts the quietest mechanisms among printers in its class thanks to a new paper feed motor with added noise dampers such as rubber insulation and a quieter DC-motor carriage. Priced at Rs 3,999, the C63 also sports a dual USB and parallel interface. It can also accommodate up to 120 sheets of paper, and incorporates a print cancel button to prevent unnecessary paper wastage.

Intel

SRAM chips

Intel has built fully functional SRAM (Static Random Access Memory) chips using 65 nanometer (nm) technology, its next generation high-volume semiconductor manufacturing process. This new 65 nm process combines higher-performance and lower-power transistors, high-speed copper interconnects and a low-k dielectric material. Intel’s new 65 nm process will feature transistors measuring only 35 nm in gate length, which will be the smallest and highest performing CMOS transistors

Intel has used its 65 nm process to make fully-functional, four megabit SRAM chips with a very small 0.57µm² cell size. Small SRAM cells allow for the integration of larger caches in processors, which increase performance. The SRAM cells have robust operating characteristics, with a solid noise margin indicating very efficient on/off switching properties. Each SRAM memory cell has six transistors: 10 million of these transistors would fit in one square millimeter, roughly the size of the tip of a ball point pen.

D-Link

DWL-G120

D-Link recently announced the shipping of a USB 2.0 wireless IEEE 802.11g standards-compliant adapter, the D-Link Xtreme G USB Adapter (DWL-G120). Providing the compliance of high speed USB 2.0 technology to deliver an out-of-the-box installation with up to 54 Mbps bandwidth in the 2.4 GHz frequency range, the D-Link DWL-G120 is interoperable with the most popular 802.11g/b home, office and hot spot networks in use today. The new plug-and-play D-Link USB 2.0 wireless adapter is easily installed to connect any USB-equipped computer to wireless networks and to the Internet, bypassing the need to install an internal PCI card.

Ensuring network scalability and compatibility, the D-Link DWL-G120 USB adapter auto-senses the USB port in order to maximise network performance, whether connected to a USB 2.0, 1.1 or 1.0 port. The adapter complies with the latest wireless networking security features, including 64/128-bit WEP encryption and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) support for both 802.1x and WPA-PSK.

The DWL-G120 is also capable of supporting government-grade AES encryption and upcoming 802.11i standards with future firmware upgrades.

The plug-and-play USB 2.0 device can operate in multiple modes, including ad-hoc mode, connecting point-to-point users without the need of an access point, and infrastructure mode, connecting to a wireless residential gateway via a xDSL / cable modem for high-speed wireless Internet access or for sharing resources across a network. With a five-foot USB cable included, the wireless USB adapter can be positioned virtually anywhere to achieve the best-possible wireless connection.

Zebra Technologies

QL220

Zebra Technologies has unveiled the new QL220 as part of its QL series of printers. The QL220 is the two-inch label version of its QL320 three-inch and QL420 four-inch counterparts. It offers users the convenience of printing labels and receipts at the point of application, while at the same time allowing users to access up-to-date information through wireless connectivity (802.11b) to the company’s network. The QL220 can be used with a terminal equipped with a magnetic card reader to accept credit card payments.

The QL220 LAN version is fully IP-addressable and can be accessed and managed as any fixed station printer on the network. The printer features its own Web page that can be browsed remotely, via a wired or wireless network connection, and allows the user to view general status, communication and battery information. If the user is experiencing technical difficulties, instead of sending out an engineer, IT administrators can browse the Web page to diagnose problems from wherever they are based. This is both time- and cost-efficient. Similarly, more advanced radio frequency settings, encryption and security information can be viewed and updated by the administrator.

Features:

  • Ergonomic design, compact size (181.6 mm/7.15 inches by 90.7 mm/3.37 inches), lightweight (.59 kg/1.3 lbs with battery).
  • Connectivity options include 802.11b and Bluetooth.
  • Optional LCD panel to carry custom or application specific screens.
  • Lightweight lithium ion rechargeable battery.
  • Supports WEP (wired equivalent privacy), LEAP and Kerberos.
