CD Profile

E-catalogues

CD Profile’s E-catalogues are less expensive than multimedia presentations and are very flexible. E-Catalogues contains a custom designed collection of your photos and product information on a CD in an album/catalogue format, similar to a paper album or catalogue. All the user has to do is to insert the CD in the CD-ROM drive and see the computer screen come alive with information and pictures of products, just like any paper catalogue, but with excellent flexibility. Pages turn with a 3D flipping motion and realistic sound.

HyperWorks 6.0

Altair Engineering has announced the release of Altair HyperWorks 6.0, the next generation of its CAE software suite that delivers an advanced engineering desktop solution for use in any industry or PLM system, where products need to be highly engineered.

HyperWorks 6.0 introduces four entirely new products and an impressive list of advancements in modelling, analysis, optimisation, visualisation, process automation and manufacturing simulation—all within an open engineering framework. New products include HyperWorks process manager, HyperMorph and HyperStudy.

While HyperWorks process manager automates and captures corporate best practices for the entire simulation process HyperMorph, a mesh manipulation tool, allows users to quickly parameterise models and stretch finite element meshes while keeping mesh distortion at a minimum.

HyperStudy is a parametric study and multi-disciplinary optimisation tool for robust product design.

MLL-H

Micro Technologies has launched Micro LifeLine Hospital (MLL-H), a unique software which promises to revolutionise IT usage in hospitals without the need for any additional hardware. MLL-H provides an easy, prompt and affordable means of communication in order to enable specialists, surgeons, physicians, staff, patients, blood banks, utility service providers and suppliers to constantly stay in touch. MLL-H integrates the existing IT set up of the hospital.

Tungsten T3

Palm has introduced two new models—the Palm Tungsten T3 handheld and the Palm Tungsten E handheld. Both handhelds feature substantial software innovations, including significantly more capable Personal Information Management (PIM) features and productivity software.

The Tungsten T3 handheld is Palm’s first device that supports an ultra high-resolution colour screen in landscape, as well as the typical portrait mode. The handheld offers greater input flexibility, streamlined access to key features and optimal viewing in either mode. The screen display is 50 percent larger than any previous Palm device and the new soft input screen area provides a virtual graffiti writing area. Treo 180

Mumbai-based Pitroshni has launched Handspring’s Treo 180, a communicator device that features the functionalities of a mobile phone, Palm OS PDA, organiser, e-mail, text messaging and wireless Web, all in one compact device.

It delivers the slickest combination of function and ease of use and measures 4.2 by 2.8 by 0.8-inches. When the unit’s lid is closed, the Palm OS PDA buttons are exposed, and you can see the entire 2-square-inch PDA screen through the lid window for caller ID and other phone functions. Below the screen is a keyboard with a Graffiti input area for the keyboard. You can use the Treo as a conventional Palm OS PDA, a two-way SMS and POP3 e-mail communicator, a limited browser, and as a dual-band phone. Priced at

Rs 15,000 the Treo 180 also comes bundled with Handspring’s Blazer 2.0 browser.

Symantec

Gateway Security 5400

Symantec has announced the launch of the Symantec Gateway Security 5400 Series. Symantec’s new line of firewall appliances reduce network security costs and provide customers with comprehensive gateway-level protection by integrating full inspection firewall, intrusion prevention, intrusion detection, anti-virus, content filtering, VPN, and anti-spam technology in a single device.

The product offers centralised policy configuration management through the advanced manager plug-in for Symantec enterprise security architecture. In addition, centralised logging, alerting and reporting is available with advanced manager or separately with an event manager plug-in to Symantec enterprise security architecture. These appliances can also be managed individually with the included secure, Web-based Symantec gateway management interface. The Symantec gateway security appliance 5400 series will be offered in three different models—5420, 5440 and 5460.
