Shipra Arora / New Delhi

After twelve years of providing outsourced core software product R&D services to US software companies, US-based Impetus Technologies is now considering bringing out its own software products into the markets across the globe. These solutions will be launched in the market early next year. The company will, however, continue to focus on its outsourced product R&D and related services business. It has recently expanded its operations by setting up the second development centre in New Delhi. Impetus is planning to invest around $2-3 million in the next 18 months. It will be seeking some cash infusion through venture capital funding.

Praveen Kankariya

Impetus has been doing intellectual property development on a cost-sharing basis with other companies over the last few years. It has around 15-16 such initiatives in place. Impetus president and CEO Praveen Kankariya said the company is now planning to roll out some of these initiatives in the form of commercial software products. The product offerings will be focused at the infrastructure level. It will be targeting the US, European and Asian markets, including India, for its products.

Some of the tools and components that the company has been working on and which might find their way into the product line include MVC Framework, Rule Engine, Application Integration Framework, Exception Handling, Generic Data Retrieval and Manipulation tool (GDRM). In addition to this the company has also been developing a reporting system internally code-named Intera, Avalanche Load (Tester), XML-based HIPAA Data Enabler, electronic communication surveillance system (Patriot), Application Health Monitoring System (HMS), Logging Framework, Security Framework and Data Migration Tool (DMT).

In addition to product design and development the company also provides services like testing automation, legacy maintenance, implementation services and support services from India. The company plans to increase its manpower to 300 by the end of year 2004. The company’s first development centre in Indore presently houses 180 people. Impetus has done designing and implementing of software products for companies like 3M, Nightfire, Peoplesoft-Vantive.
