Impetus to launch commercial software products

After twelve years of providing outsourced core software
product R&D services to US software companies, US-based Impetus Technologies
is now considering bringing out its own software products into the markets across
the globe. These solutions will be launched in the market early next year. The
company will, however, continue to focus on its outsourced product R&D and
related services business. It has recently expanded its operations by setting
up the second development centre in New Delhi. Impetus is planning to invest
around $2-3 million in the next 18 months. It will be seeking some cash infusion
through venture capital funding.

Impetus has been doing intellectual property development
on a cost-sharing basis with other companies over the last few years. It has
around 15-16 such initiatives in place. Impetus president and CEO Praveen Kankariya
said the company is now planning to roll out some of these initiatives in the
form of commercial software products. The product offerings will be focused
at the infrastructure level. It will be targeting the US, European and Asian
markets, including India, for its products.
Some of the tools and components that the company has been
working on and which might find their way into the product line include MVC
Framework, Rule Engine, Application Integration Framework, Exception Handling,
Generic Data Retrieval and Manipulation tool (GDRM). In addition to this the
company has also been developing a reporting system internally code-named Intera,
Avalanche Load (Tester), XML-based HIPAA Data Enabler, electronic communication
surveillance system (Patriot), Application Health Monitoring System (HMS), Logging
Framework, Security Framework and Data Migration Tool (DMT).
In addition to product design and development the company
also provides services like testing automation, legacy maintenance, implementation
services and support services from India. The company plans to increase its
manpower to 300 by the end of year 2004. The companys first development
centre in Indore presently houses 180 people. Impetus has done designing and
implementing of software products for companies like 3M, Nightfire, Peoplesoft-Vantive.
