As the network security market gets increasingly saturated,
new start-ups are increasingly looking to develop their own identity by following
a niche approach. Tas Integrators, a new company formed by former Network Associates
country manager Vishwajeet Deshmukh is trying to do just that, by selecting
best-of-breed network security products from different vendors. The company
has formed strategic alliances with leading players in distinct domains, such
as Network Instruments (a specialist player in network monitoring and analysis),
Secure Computing (a player which has to its credit a product like Sidewinder,
probably the only firewall that has never been compromised) and Niksun (a player
known for its network surveillance and forensics tools).
Deshmukh is also looking out for alliances that will
give the company growth in terms of both volumes and value. For example, firewalls
would give the company growth in terms of volumes. But network forensic tools
is a concept not known in the Indian market and has high growth potential.
Says Vishwajeet Deshmukh, CEO Tas Integrators, Forensics
is a high-growth area that has not yet been yet tapped into. For example, in
case a fraud in a financial institution takes place, they can reconstruct the
entire data as it was days or weeks ago. E-mail that has been sent can be reconstructed
and voice samples can be examined to apprehend the culprits. Whats more,
alarms can be customised according to business rules. For example, if an employee
of a bank who is not authorised to view customer data tries to do the same,
an alarm can be sent out immediately to the head of the organisation. We see
a big potential for forensics in financial institutions, telecom companies and
even large carrier class ISPs.
Content filtering is another growth area that Deshmukh
feels would be a high growth area and Tas is looking at playing in a big way
in this segment with Smart Filter, a content filtering product.
