Quantum
DLTSage

Quantum has announced the availability of DLTSage, a new architecture-based suite of predictive and preventive diagnostic offerings that will enable customers to manage their tape storage environments. Compliant with industry standard specifications, DLTSage is designed to eliminate the guesswork and uncertainties of managing data protection systems by providing the information necessary to better manage, predict and proactively prevent storage system errors. If failures do occur, DLTSage’s predictive and preventative advanced diagnostics quickly identify the problem, speeding system recovery processes. The DLTSage suite will ship with all future Super DLTtape solutions at no additional charge, beginning with the SDLT 600 tape drive this year, but DLTSage firmware and software are available for download for existing Super DLTtape products.

DLTSage will include the following application agents:

  • DLTSage xTalk: Provides host-based diagnostics for all operating environments communicating using SCSI, Fibre Channel and other supported interfaces.
  • DLTSage iTalk: Communicate with all elements of customer environments with tape drive systems to obtain status information and issue commands via infrared (IR) links. A pocket version of DLTSage, iTalk will obtain drive information and send commands using a pocket PC and IR connection.
  • DLTSage eTalk: Enable Web-based management to be included in future releases to convey drive and media information.

Black Cat

Best IT World recently added the Black Cat cordless optical mouse to its product portfolio. Based on the iBall 8D technology mouse, Black Cat features horizontal and vertical scrolling, trackball mode and full screen zoom. It also boasts of re-chargeable batteries, which does away with the issue of changing batteries periodically. Rechargeable batteries reduce regular recurring cost of the user. Norman
Spam Control

Norman has announced the launch of Norman Spam Control (NSC) Version 8.0, which offers spam protection at the server level and eliminates the need to install and update anti-spam software on each desktop. In addition to anti-spam, NSC adds key e-mail tools to the mail server, including disclaimers, mail archiving and monitoring, Internet mail reporting, server-based auto replies and POP3 downloading. NSC installs on Exchange Server 2000 machines and integrates seamlessly. No extra configuration is required. Norman Spam Controls also supports Exchange 5.5, Lotus Notes and SMTP mail
servers. NSC includes advanced spam detection technology that tackles spam through analysis of e-mail content and e-mail headers. It checks for keywords in the e-mail body and subject and also analyses the e-mail header and identifies spam based on message field information.

Envision
IVY Pocket PC

Envision Inform-ation Systems and Technologies has launched the IVY pocket PC. The device, which weighs just 160 grams comes with 32MB ROM / 64MB storage expandable up to 5GB. The built-in compact flash (CF) slot lets you connect to the Internet with a 56k CF modem. It also features a 1.3 mega pixel CF digital camera and a foldable keyboard. A user can make PowerPoint presentations onto an overhead LCD projector. One can also stay connected using CF wireless LAN / Ethernet cards / CF GPRS cards, etc.

LiFY
Multilingual Linux

Linux For You (LiFY) has launched a multilingual version of Linux. It now supports all major Indian languages, including Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Gurmukhi, Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu. LiFY is an educational version of Linux that provides cost-effective educational software solutions and includes applications for educational needs. It is totally free for any personal and business use. LiFY features a Windows XP like interface and has a separate menu for educational applications. All applications are based on open source, and the source code is available for free for modification and re-use by programmers. LiFY has also been integrated with applications devised by Indian programmers. The operating system does not need any installation and can run directly from the CD-ROM.
