eSCAN 2003

Micro World Technologies has announced the launch of its eScan next generation anti virus software. eScan 2003 scans local and network drives for viruses and cleans them on a real-time basis. eScan 2003 offers unprecedented security at various levels in any organisation, from the Internet gateway to desktops.

MicroWorld claims that the anti-virus is the world’s first real-time anti-virus, content security and TCP-IP traffic scanning software package that uses Micro World WinSock Layer (MWL) technology. This technology scans and checks Internet traffic and content on real-time basis including emails, attachment files and web pages. The checks are made for viruses, restricted words and phrases as well as for embedded objects like Java applets, etc. eScan incorporates content security plug-ins at the gateway level to protect customers.

The eScan Management Console offers a method to remotely install/uninstall eScan 2003 from a single machine, a remote display that upgrades licenses and security policies, and obtains the status of clients. The eScan Updater allows users to automatically download updates and set the time interval for auto downloads.

Moxa NPort 6110

Dynalog India, has introduced the new NPort 6110 Modbus/TCP to Serial Communication Gateway from Moxa Technologies. Modbus protocol supports traditional RS-232/422/485 devices and newly developed Ethernet devices.

MOXA NPort 6110 supports one Ethernet and one software selectable RS-232/422/485 port that can connect with all kinds of Modbus devices. By translating Modbus/TCP (Ethernet) and Modbus/ASCII/RTU (Serial) protocols, a PLC with Ethernet can use the RS-232/485 interface to seamlessly communicate with instruments.

AIDA2 design platform

ST Microelectronics has introduced the AIDA2 DVD player design platform. The AIDA2 design platform constitutes a complete DVD playback system based on the DMB2 monoboard. The DMB2 monoboard combines the front-end drive mechanism and the back-end DVD decoder onto a single PCB. This has been specifically designed as a low cost mass producible component of a DVD system, to increase the end product’s cost effectiveness. In the past, the front-end electronics resided on the drive and interfaced with the back-end via the ATAPI or Serial interface connectors.

The AIDA2 design platform provides an interactive application development platform and is based on the state-of-the-art semiconductor devices like the STm5589 host processor, STm6316, DVD optical disc processor, 16 Mbit flash memory, 64 Mbit SDRAM.

The AIDA2 DVD design reference platform supports high fidelity digital and analogue audio outputs, S/PDIF digital output interface (both optical and coaxial), 2-channel audio output, (on which an expansion slot for 6-channel audio output is possible) component analogue YpbPr video output (interfaced and progressive), PAL/ NTSC video output (composite and S-VHS), infrared remote control and VFD front display panel.

EFY Enterprises
Linux from India

EFY has launched Linux from India-For You (LiFY), an educational version of Linux. LiFY is aimed at providing cost-effective educational software solutions to a large cross-section of the Indian population.

LiFY has been designed with a Windows XP like interface and has a separate menu for educational applications. The source code of the applications is also available for free for modification and re-use by programmers. The operating system does not need any installation and can run directly from a CD-ROM. It is built in with Ethereal and other strong network support and applications.

LiFY has been integrated with many applications that are useful for education including OpenOffice, Wims, Euler, Physics Interactive, CAD tools and VLSI design tools

LiFY also includes applications for educational institutes like STORM (system for managing educational institutions), TimeTable (application for generating faculty timetable), School Scheduler, etc.

Organisation Chart
Drawing Tool

S K Consultancy Services has introduced Organisation Chart Drawing Tool using VB as front end and Access 2000 /SQL / SQL 2000 as database to store data of employees and their reporting. The system has two types of reporting built to draw the organisation chart—administrative reporting and functional reporting.

The employee master will have following major fields, which can get reflected in the organisation chart such as employee generally referred name, designation, division, department, etc. In order to draw neat charts the user can select maximum of four the fields mentioned above. The database can be backed up whenever the reporting changes. The old organisation chart can be viewed by selecting the appropriate database.

The organisation chart once prepared can be exported to Word or Excel or directly mailed to the concerned staff members whose e-mail addresses are stored in the database.
