Retort Software
ALICE

Retort Software has introduced ALICE (advanced Linux Internet communication environment), a software that converts an ordinary PC into a powerful communication gateway server. ALICE is an integrated suite enabling secure mailing, controlled and efficient Internet access and interfacing with multiple modes of connectivity. Rolled onto a Pentium class PC, ALICE is designed to take the network load off an organisation’s LAN and reduce the time actually spent on the Internet, without compromising on the speed of connection.

ALICE works with all major OSes, is non-proprietary and adaptable to future messaging standards. This platform, based on the Linux OS and with kernel hardening from OPEN-BSD patches, is especially suitable for e-mail, Internet application services and ERP systems in heterogeneous networks such as Windows, Novell NetWare, Apple-based OS and all UNIX systems. It supports any operating system that supports TCP/IP and standard database systems.

High-performance support of various hardware and extreme reliability makes Alice the ideal medium for consolidating complex server structures i.e. from department and Internet / intranet servers to application servers for mission-critical applications.

ALICE allows an organisation to change e-mail systems or run co-existing systems seamlessly.

ALICE 4.0 does not require high-end server hardware, and can be implemented on a normal desktop machine to yield the same results. ALICE 4.0 supports almost every PCI Ethernet controller, ISDN cards, SCSI controllers, parallel port printers and external modems.
