Dynalog
64-bit PCI card
 Dynalog
India has recently launched a new 64-bit PCI card, PCA-6185 manufactured
by Taiwan-based Advantech Technologies. A 64-bit PCI bus provides
higher overall throughput for high-performance adapters and better
system efficiency by providing the same data in fewer PCI clock
cycles compared to 32-bit. A 66-MHz PCI bus doubles the data throughput
over the same amount of time.
The benefits of both 64-bit and 66-MHz
PCI implementations are better PCI bus utilisation, better overall
PCI bus efficiency, and a substantial increase in PCI bus performance.
The PCA 6185 is a socket 478 Pentium 4
/ Celeron processor card with 64-bit PCI-X/DDR/VGA/dual gigabit
LAN/SCSI (400/533 MHz FSB). It supports Intel hyper-threading technology,
serverworks GC-SL chipset 400/533MHz FSB, 64-bit 66 MHz PCI-X, onboard
VGA controller with 8MB SDRAM, onboard single/dual 10/100/1000 Base-T
Ethernet, BCM5703/5704 controller. It also supports dual channel
ultra 320 SCSI, has CMOS automatic backup and restore to prevent
accidental data loss of BIOS setup. It has no ISA support.

External USB2.0 CD-RW drive
Iomega has launched the Iomega 52x24x52 External USB2.0 CD-RW drive.
It can be shared among multiple computers and multiple operating
systems, whether it be a PC or a Macintosh. The CD-RW comes bundled
with all the hardware and software needed to capture and share music,
photos, presentations, data and more. The software bundle includes
the new Iomega HotBurn Pro CD mastering software for the PC, Hotburn
for the Macintosh, MusicMatch Jukebox, and Adobe ActiveShare for
PC.
The drive offers fast 48x Digital Audio
Extraction (DAE) speed with buffer UnderRun protection, eliminating
the risk of wasted CD media. The drive also comes with a USB2.0
data cable, external power supply, one CD-R disc, and a quick-install
manual. Users will need a separate USB2.0 card in order to achieve
full 52x24x52 speeds (this card normally comes as part of original
computer hardware or can be purchased separately).
The drive, which is priced at Rs 9,000
and comes with a one year warranty, is available with all leading
dealers in the country.

mykey, DocuMate and mykeyi
Mumbai-based software developer and hardware manufacturing company
deciBells has developed three products: mykey, DocuMate and mykeyi.
mykey, which addresses the PC security
market, enables users to lock the desktop screen of the system,
lock the complete system and encrypt files and folders within the
computer. Once the user has exercised any of the options, he/she
will not be able to operate the features until the key is present.
DocuMate on the other hand addresses the
documents/file sharing market. Through a secure file-sharing protocol
any user of a user group can encrypt the file with his own key and
send it to user/s within the group. The product can also be used
for the distribution of secured data via CD, floppy or e-mail.
mykeyi, a key device which is sold as a
solution customised according to user needs, provides the user extra
authentication over and above the user name/password authorisation.
The product can authenticate a user over the Internet or extranet
in terms of identity, usage counts, time utilisation, time zone,
etc, and can be integrated with the user’s Web applications.

Serial ATA RAID PCI adapters
Promise Technology recently announced the availability of two PCI
Serial ATA (SATA) RAID adapters for Serial ATA/150 drives, the FastTrak
S150 TX2plus and the FastTrak S150 TX4. The FastTrak S150 TX family
of PCI adapters addresses the growing availability of Serial ATA
drives by delivering Promise’s proven ATA RAID 0/1/0+1 technology
in a PCI card solution.
The FastTrak TX PCI host bus adapter line
leverages the RAID software engine, while integrating more features.
The FastTrak S150 TX2plus provides a hybrid solution that combines
two independent SATA RAID ports for two SATA drives and one Ultra/133
ATA RAID port for support of up to two Ultra/133 ATA drives (master-slave
combination). This unique solution provides a SATA RAID upgrade
path for current ATA/133 and ATA/100 storage users, extending their
investment in ATA/133 and ATA/100 hard drives.
For high-capacity storage users, the Promise
FastTrak S150 TX4 enables a high-performance all-Serial ATA RAID
configuration with four independent SATA ports for up to four Serial
