Simputer a hit at Bangalore PC Expo

Circuit EC / Bangalore

The Simputer stalls stole the show at the recently concluded PC Expo in Bangalore. Both Encore Software and Picopeta were competing with each other in wooing people at their stalls with their respective Simputers. A representative at the Encore stall claimed that they had been successful in selling a substantial number of Simputers. The Encore stall was displaying four Simputer models with 16 MB RAM and 8 MB flash memory, 32 MB RAM & 16 MB flash, 32 MB RAM & 16 MB flash colour model and the 64 MB RAM & 32 MB flash colour model. Picopeta was also showing colour and black-and-white models. However, Picopeta’s models are yet to be commercially launched in the market.

The PC Expo drew a lot of youngsters, seen in large numbers at the event, admiring the latest in computer technology. The officials at the event claimed that the four-day event had 50,000 visitors with youth making up the majority of them. There were about 100 stalls at the show and many exhibitors had booked more than a couple of stalls each.

The stall put up by BEL had a display of a dual computer, which has the advantage of having two systems in the same cabinet—one connected to the local network and the other to the Internet. LG Electronics displayed its new models, including a large 18-inch LCD monitor. There were also stalls set up by Samsung, distributors of Microsoft products and computer training institutes like Jetking and Animaster.
