Infotech attains CMMi Level 5

Circuit EC / Hyderabad

Infotech Enterprises, has announced that it has been successfully appraised at Level 5 of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMi) Version 1.1. The CMMi appraisal was completed within just one year of achieving SEI CMM Level 5, said company sources. The appraisal covers Infotech’s software divisions of GIS, engineering, embedded and IT services (e- sol, E- CAD, GSD).

The appraisal was completed under the SCAMPI version 1.1-appraisal method specified by Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute. SCAMPI incorporates the best ideas of several process-improvement appraisal methods. It is the world’s highest level of quality certification available in software and systems integration.

Till date, only 10 companies worldwide have reached this level of certification, and of these only five companies were reassessed for more than one discipline. Infotech has been assessed for three disciplines—software engineering, system engineering and supplier sourcing—in the very first appraisal.

B V R Mohan Reddy, chairman and managing director of Infotech said, “CMMi is an assurance of our commitment to customers to deliver cost-effective, on-time and high quality services. CMMi will enable Infotech to explicitly link management and software engineering activities to business objectives to ensure that products and services meet customer expectations. It will also help us to implement best practices across the organisation to achieve robust and high-maturity practices.”

Commenting on the achievement, Rajeev Lal, COO, IT Services said, “By achieving SEI CMMi Level 5 for three disciplines, within a year of assessment for software CMM Level 5, Infotech has demonstrated its commitment and vitality in implementing world-class quality systems. This is done at a high pace, in keeping with growth in new areas of business. In the last one year, we are already finding significant benefits to us and to our customers as a result of CMM Level 5. CMMi Level 5 implementation and successful appraisal will enhance the benefits further.”

The journey of excellence at Infotech began with the success of ISO 9002 for its conversions services division in August 1995, followed by an ISO 9001 for its software development services in September 1999. The pursuit for excellence and continuous improvement in process being the driving force at Infotech, the company achieved ISO 9001:2000 in July 2001 from BVQi London.

With this, Infotech joined the top few companies in India to be certified with ISO 9001: 2000 standards and certainly the first company in the GIS services sector. Infotech was assessed at SEI CMM Level 4 in August 2001 and within a span of just eight months it attained the SEI CMM Level 5 in April 2002.
