BT hands $160 mn deal to HCL Technologies

HCL Technologies has bagged a $160-million five-year contract in the business process outsouring (BPO) space from British Telecom (BT).

This is one of the largest deals for a third-party Indian IT-enabled services (ITES) provider.

HCL Technologies is planning to invest $16.5 million over the next two quarters. “Currently, investments of $16.5 million have been approved for the company’s BPO initiatives that might be expended over a period longer than two quarters,” HCL Technologies chief financial officer Arun Duggal said.

The company has one BPO centre each in the US and the UK. It is in the process of setting up another small facility in Malaysia.

The company is serving 15 customers from the US, eight from the UK and one from Germany as part of its BPO initiative.
