Is hacking really child’s play?
The article ‘Hacker websites turn virus writing into child’s play’ by Goh Chee Hoh, Trend Micro [EC, January 20] was extremely insightful. I am a student myself and have always been attracted by the ways of the hacking community. Like me, there are scores of my colleagues who always thought that hacking is a well-refined art and requires tremendous expertise. But after reading the article, we have been convinced that except the few who are hackers, the rest are indeed script kiddies. Our kudos to Mr Goh who has mentioned some extremely effective examples to shatter this myth. Hope to read more of such insightful articles from experts in the forthcoming issues of Express Computer.

The article ‘MMS—sending out a clearer picture’ [EC, February 10] was well written and timely. Recently, we as readers have observed that Express Computer has been extremely good in analysing technologies and trends. Keep up the good work!

IITB—real jewel in Indian IT
Your story on IITB’s Kresit [EC, January 20] was to describe in one word—fantastic. Though IITB is well known, nobody knew the potential of the jewels embedded within the crown. As your writers have mentioned, our country truly needs such building blocks to build a resurgent India. As Indians, one can only hope that the inspiration from these companies rubs off on other technology startups.

The article ‘Prudential ICICI: Technology at your service’ [EC, February 24], was timely, keeping in mind the fierce competition which the insurance sector is witnessing today. The biggest insurance player in the life segment, LIC too is a large user of information technology. Hope to see more such articles on companies that use IT in a innovative way.

The Nasscom special issue [EC, February 17] was well conceptualised and packaged. While all the articles were good, one article ‘New geographies, new verticals: A glimpse into the future’ stood out. The article on ‘Is Nasscom a big boys club’ was also well analysed. It was also heartening to hear the positive outlook of industry captains on the future of the Indian IT industry. Congratulations on a great issue!

The article ‘Wired Watchdogs’ can fire their ire at corruption’ [EC March 3] was an interesting comment on the how IT can be used to tackle corruption in the developing world. Innovative use of telecommunication and information technology is especially relevant in countries like India, with a vast geographic spread, low literacy rates and an apathetic government. I hope such new ways of tackling corruption and ensuring that politicians with a dubious record are kept out of our system will improve the quality of governance.
