While
the size of the retail market in India runs into billions
of rupees and has been attracting a lot of attention from
makers of IT peripherals, it is still a long way before one
can say confidently that PC peripherals can be sold via the
retail route. But nonetheless, vendors have been attracted
by the immense potential of this market and have launched
several retail initiatives. The latest vendor to join this
pack is Logitech, an established player in the personal interface
devices market.
The company is planning a series of retail initiatives to
enhance its brand image. Logitech has already set up a retail
showroom in Mumbai. What makes this retail showroom unique
is the fact that the showroom would only be used for building
the companys brand image and to help customers get familiar
with Logitech devices. No sales would take place from the
showroom. Gavin Wu, vice president, sales and marketing, Logitech
Asia Pacific region, marketing said, The retail market
is a key growth area for Logitech and contributes nearly 85
percent to our revenues. While the retail market in India
is yet to emerge in a big way today, the potential is obviously
bright. We believe that our retail initiatives would bring
us closer to the customer.
Logitech has also introduced a Logitech Retail Partner (LRP)
programme to increase visibility. Under this programme, Logitech
plans to cover over 50 outlets starting from Mumbai and Delhi
and gradually extending to other parts of the country. Rashi
Peripherals, the sole distributor for Logitech in India, would
be assisting the company in not only developing the LRP base
but also accrediting Logitechs resellers.
