SMC recently introduced the SMC EZ Connect 802.11a wireless access point (SMC2755W). This latest offering from SMC supports up to 64 simultaneous wireless network connections and is fast enough to replace a wired connection. To provide network security, this new 802.11a Access Point supports encryption using both 64-bit and 128-bit WEP, and provides an extra security feature with 152-bit WEP. Designed to operate in the 5GHz frequency spectrum, this access point can communicate without interference from other devices, such as 802.11b devices, Bluetooth products, and cordless phones, which communicate in the crowded 2.4GHz range. The SMC EZ Connect Wireless Access Point provides connections at speeds that can handle such applications as streaming video, voice communication, and other bandwidth-intensive programs. The SMC2755W is based on the new IEEE 802.11a wireless standard and provides the perfect wireless connectivity for both home and business users. Using an enhanced turbo mode feature, this new Wireless Access Point can transfer data at speeds up to 72Mbps, which is seven times faster than 802.11b-based devices, and can also support a maximum operating range up to 1,650 feet. Zenith Comp-uters recently announced the launch of the world’s first picture-in-picture (PIP) PC powered by Intel Pentium 4 1.6 GHz processor. Priced at Rs 29,500, this is claimed to be the lowest price offered by any company for a technologically advanced machine. PIP PC enables the viewer to not only watch a TV show while working on the PC but also enables one to click snaps of any of the personalities on the show. The PIP PC also features a stream line graphics interface, multi-function and quick response software, which supports MP3, NetMeeting, TV applications that can record the video and audio from any device connected with the capture card and sound card such as CD ROM, VCR, camcorder and LD/VCD/DVD player.

Apple recently unveiled the new 12-inch PowerBook G4 with a 12-inch active matrix display housed in a lightweight, durable aluminium alloy enclosure weighing 4.6 pounds, including battery and combo drive. This latest offering from Apple offers a speedy 867 MHz PowerPC G4 processor, fast NVIDIA graphics, a standard slot-loading combo (DVD ROM/CD RW) optical drive, built in bluetooth, and industry leading battery life of up to five hours on a single charge. The PowerBook G4 measures just over one inch in thickness and has a 1024 by 768 pixel resolution. It offers 256 MB of fast double data rate (DDR) memory, which is expandable to 640 MB, and a NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go graphics processor with 32 MB of dedicated DR RAM for 3D graphics and display performance. The standard slot-loading combo optical drive lets customers watch DVDs and burn both data and music CDs. The in-built Bluetooth enables wireless connections to bluetooth-enabled peripherals such as cell phones and PDAs. Apple’s new iSync software helps users automatically synchronise address books and calendars between the Mac and Bluetooth devices. The PowerBook G4 also includes built-in antennas and a card slot to support Airport Extreme, Apple’s next-generation wireless networking based on 802.11g. This technology can transmit data up to 54 Mbps, which is almost five times faster than the data rate of previous wireless technologies. It is also compatible with the existing 802.11b Wi-Fi devices currently used around the world.
