Samsung sets up PC assembling unit in Kolkata

Circuit EC / Kolkata

IT hardware major Samsung Electronics India Information & Telecommunications (SEIIT), in association with Webel Technology (WTL), a West Bengal government undertaking and Syntech Informatics has set up a PC assembling facility at the Salt Lake Electronics Complex in Kolkata for their branded PC. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, the state chief minister inaugurated the manufacturing facility in Kolkata recently.

The assembling facility would be housed at the premises of Webel Technology. This is the first of its kind production facility in the State, with an initial production capacity of 1,000 desktop PCs per month, which would be later increased to 2,000 desktop PCs per month. The assembling unit conforms to all the quality processes and norms of the South Korean company.

The project is a perfect example of tripartite business arrangement where WTL would provide necessary infrastructure and marketing support; Syntech Informatics would be the system integrator for the project and provide the necessary working capital; and, Samsung would provide the required PC components, know-how and technology.

With this, the West Bengal chief minister’s vision of putting the State among the top three states of the country in the IT sector by 2010 does not seem to be a distant dream.
