Exabyte
Magnum20 LTO Tape Library
Exabyte, a performance and value leader in tape backup
systems, recently announced the availability of its
newest LTO automation product, the Magnum20 LTO Tape
Library.
The Magnum20 packs up to eight IBM LTO tape drives and
148 Exabyte LTO cartridges into a 20u rack mount space.
Special features and options include 8-way partitioning,
remote management, and direct Fibre Channel attachment
avoiding the complications and saving the costs of intermediate
routers and bridges.
Magnum20 and LTO tape technology meet the capacity,
performance, and budget requirements of mid-range and
enterprise-class users. A five-cartridge entry/exit
port is available for secure loading/unloading of data
cartridges. The standard remote management feature allows
users to conveniently conduct any operation available
through the librarys LCD panel from a PC at their
desk, three buildings away or half way across the world.
The library-partitioning features allow users to create
as many as eight mini-libraries within a single Magnum20,
maximising flexibility and efficiency.
Users can easily configure and expand storage capacity
from 100 GB to 29.6 TB and performance from 54 GB per
hour to 864 GB per hour without the cost and inconvenience
of re-arranging rack space and components or installing
additional library modules. Redundant power supplies,
IBM LTO tape drives, and Magnum20 interface cards can
be installed by the user to provide reliable, simultaneous
support for multiple servers in a mixed SCSI and Fibre
Channel environment.
The new Magnum20 LTO Tape Library joins an existing
line of Exabyte LTO automation products. The Exabyte
110L LTO Tape Autoloader provides small offices and
remote location sites with entry-level automated storage
capability. For larger networks with higher capacity
and performance needs, Exabyte offers the 221L LTO Tape
Library, which is available with either SCSI or native
Fibre Channel interfaces.

Macromedia
JRun 4
Macromedia
has hit the market with its Macromedia JRun 4, the latest
release of Macromedias Java application server
focused on providing a fast, reliable J2EE 1.3 compatible
platform. JRun 4 is designed to be an approachable,
complete solution for developing and deploying robust
Java applications on time and on budget.
JRun 4 brings Java 2 platform, enterprise edition (J2EE
platform) compatibility to a new level of affordability
by offering a complete solution including clustering
and Web services integration in a single package priced
at Rs 45,000 per processor. JRun 4 simplifies and speeds
application development and deployment with hot modification,
auto deployment, and services that provide automatic
deployment descriptor and code generation. Additionally,
it leverages a service-based architecture to simplify
server customisation, optimisation, and extensibility.
By using Jini network technology, JRun 4 servers dynamically
locate their peers in the cluster and eliminate the
risk inherent to a single point of failure, which greatly
facilitates clustered deployment and increases application
reliability.
Developers can use the new Macromedia Flash Remoting
built into JRun 4 to connect applications running in
Macromedia Flash Player to server-side business logic
and data, enabling the creation of rich Internet applications
that combine the responsiveness and functionality of
client/server applications with the reach and low deployment
cost of the Internet.

Canon
S820
Canon has launched the S820 bubble jet printer in the
Indian market. Priced at Rs 22,995, S820 is the first
of its kind to facilitate A4 size borderless printing
in less than three minutes. This printer is targeted
at professional users like photographers and digital
printers who look at reproducing the original
picture look with the best in class
for their printing quality.
The borderless printing on the S820 is due to the high
2400 dpi resolution, brilliant colour ink and the ultra
fine 4 picol litre ink droplet feature incorporated
in the Canon S820.
Additionally, Canons exclusive Canon Photo Paper
Pro ensures that the colour shades last for up to 25
years. The Canon unique Think Tank Technology enables
replacement of colour ink tanks separately, thus saving
phenomenally on running costs.
The printer features six individual ink tanks that yield
cost efficient printing thus ensuring that the cost
of delivering real value comes at an affordable price
too.
One of the best features of the Canon S820 printer is
that it can read image data relevant to shooting conditions
like white balance and exposure. Therefore, the printing
of each image is tailored to match the users original
settings when the image was taken.
The printer is ideal for photo printing, booklet, banner
and poster printing for indoor usage. Now, you can even
create a complete digital lab, with a 35mm film scanner
that can be added to the Canon S820. This scanner can
convert 35mm negatives into positives and store them
on your computer for printing photographs on A4 paper.
S820 comes with a printer driver, which has built-in
facilities like vivid photo and a photo and image optimiser
to produce exceptionally brilliant printouts. The printers
monochrome effects convert standard photograph to sepia
hue for special effects. Additionally, the page set-up
tool allows booklet, banner and poster printing.
For user convenience, the zoom browser EX/ photo record
software helps organise pictures into select individual
folders. The photo stitch software can bundle different
images into a single picture and the 3-D photo software
makes it possible to create 3D effects for pictures.
The S820 is compatible with Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
and Mac OS 8.5 to OS X USB.

Quantum
Guardian 4400 IU NAS
Quantum has announced the Guardian 4400 Network Attached
Storage (NAS) server, the latest addition to Quantums
Guardian NAS family of products. Guardian 4400 features
maximum RAID 5 transfer rates of 160 megabits/second,
hot swappable drives, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports and
two capacity points, 480 GB and 640 GB, in a high-density
1U (rack unit) design. With enterprise-ready features
and attractive price points, the Guardian 4400 maximises
workgroup storage budgets, while delivering value in
functionality and performance.
Quantum also introduced Version 2.1 of the Guardian
Operating System (OS). This newly enhanced OS features
Backup Express, an embedded software application that
allows users to complete a variety of backups within
the backup window while reducing network traffic by
backing up Guardian servers directly to a SCSI-attached
tape drive, or tape library. With this feature the backup
process can be easily managed via a client-based graphical
user interfaceby passing the traditional network-based
backup server for more rapid and cost-effective protection.
Customers seeking maximum scalability can interconnect
up to five Guardian servers via Gigabit Ethernet, and
then backup all units to a single tape drive or library.
The Backup Express for Guardian software allows data
to be backed up directly to the appropriate Quantum
tape library or autoloader. All backups, including full,
incremental and scheduled backups, can be managed from
a centralised, client-based interface. The new Guardian
4400 is powered by the Guardian OS featuring the same
Linux-based software technology that enabled the Guardian
14000 to outperform the competition in recent benchmark
tests performed by eTesting Labs.
