Let me list the persons for whom the book is NOT for. They
are, users of Office 2000 and previous versions of MS-Office;
users who are quite adept at handling various features of
previous MS-Office versions; users of Star Office. People
adept at handling the features of previous MS-Office versions
will not find any landmark differences in Office XP. The enhancements
of Office XP are generally easy to find and operate. And if
you use Star Office, this book is certainly not for you, dummy!
The Dummies series has become widely popular
due to the reader-friendly step-by-step explanation of the
various features of any software or application. Office XP
for Dummies maintains the past record well.
The functions of the features of various applications in
the Office XP suite (which includes Word, Excel, Power Point,
Outlook, Access, Front Page) are explained in plain English.
There is little use of jargon, and explanations are provided
in case there are any. This makes it very helpful indeed for
those newly introduced to desktop computing.
There are many visual elements and screenshots of the various
dialogue screens that appear when using the applications,
printed in the book. This allows readers to keep track of
the mouse clicks and keystrokes that they make when using
Office XP features.
Outlook, the least-used Office application is explained
as well, but there should have been more pages dedicated to
it. A multi-utility program like this needs more coverage.
The book has a lot of humour injected into the text, which
helps put readers at ease and reduces intimidation. Helpful
tips in each chapter also simplifies learning.
Its a good book for learners and new users of Office
XP and also for those who may want to migrate to it soon.
