Pune-based Compulink has launched a product for project automation
called ProjectByNet, and is aiming to generate 50 percent
of its revenues from products by 2003. We are talking
to large SEI CMM level companies and have already roped in
Geometric Software and Jopasana, says Vishwas Mahajan,
CEO, Compulink. Company sources also disclose that Mphasis
has recently purchased the product to be used by 1,500 users
across its eight development centres worldwide.
It took a team of 14 professionals almost a year to develop
ProjectByNet. Presently, three teams comprising of 18 professionals
are working on subsequent versions of the product. We
invested Rs 30-40 million in developing the product and are
hopeful that ProjectByNet will generate at least Rs 4 crore
this year, says Shashi Kiran, vice president marketing,
Compulink. In 2001, the companys revenues were Rs 2.75
crore. The product runs on Windows NT/2000 and SQL Server.
Moving forward, the company is looking at developing Unix
versions of ProjectByNet. We have also partnered with
Microsoft for integrating MS Project with ProjectByNet. We
are one of the beta partners for MS Project 2002 to be launched
shortly, says Kiran.
Most of our clients have multiple locations and have
over 100 projects at any given point of time. Geometric for
instance has bought licenses for over 500 users located across
Pune, Boston and Mumbai. They have 200 projects running at
any point of time, says Kiran. ProjectByNet can cost
anywhere between Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 on a per-user basis.
Compulink has recently evaluated the market in China and
is planning to rope in a reseller there. Canada and the US
are also on the companys radar and the company has a
marketing team of four professionals in California to open
out this important market.
