Kolkata-based
Elecom Software, a 100 percent export-oriented unit (EOU)
and subsidiary of the $40-million Elecom Group, has developed
a unique solution to tackle the problems of rigorous manual
calculations needed to minimise the unused space for container
loading. Packager, as the software is termed,
can also generate all the required printable reports that
are required by export houses. The software, developed at
the companys state-of-the-art development centre on
the outskirts of the city, also provides the user with a printable
optimised set up for arranging the cartons on a palette or
directly in a container thus ensuring minimal wastage of space.
Says R D Mallik, CEO, Elecom Software, The idea of developing
this software cropped up when one of the subsidiaries of the
Elecom Group with interests in shipping and freight handling
confronted this problem. We feel that this software will serve
as an ideal tool for shipping companies and those handling
containers.
Packager can generate full reports such as pre-shipment, post-shipment
packing list, GSP-Form A and other necessary documents. It
also ensures minimum wastage of carton space. Along with complete
liberty over choice of custom size containers, palettes and
cartons, the software also ensures that cartons are placed
according to weight, thus ensuring minimal deformity of cartons.
Packager also gives the user a complete pictorial overview
of the final arrangements of cartons in the container, thus
allowing the user to get a clear idea as to what is to be
done for the purpose of loading optimally. It is capable of
generating printable documents for the pictorial representation
of arrangements as well as the data fact sheet (in words and
figures) for the shipment arrangements of cartons in the containers.
The software is marked with extremely user-friendly GUI (Graphical
User Interface) features and also boasts of the latest XML
technologies. Mallik points out that the software has been
Web-enabled in an effort to ensure that different branches
of an export house can use it and also modify/make corrections,
if necessary. The software is compatible under various operating
systems ranging from Windows 95/98/2000, NT and also XP.
Mallik adds that the software is already in use at Smitabh
Intercon, a subsidiary of the Group dealing in shipping and
container handling. The company plans to market the software
in different parts of the country, starting with the Eastern
region.
