As
vice president-business development at Aalayance, Rod Mann
is responsible for the development of long-term business strategies,
partnerships, and marketing. Pankaj Mishra spoke to
him to find out the company's plans for India
What kind of presence do you have in India?
So far, we have invested $3 million in the country and plans
are underway to enhance our presence here. We currently have
80 professionals and by the end of the year, plan to add another
60.
We are not a software services company and therefore huge
head counts are not required in our business. We undertake
core product development and the Indian team is very competent.
Can you explain the eTeam concept?
An eTeam comprises of a set of skilled engineers that focus
on a single client's products. This allows Aalayance staff
to become an adjunct engineering organisation. Each eTeam
is led by a Client Program Manager (CPM). Each CPM is a developer
in his/her own right, so he/she understands the intricacies
of application development.
Who are your clients and how does this concept help them?
At present, we have five clients and Tibco is one of them.
We also work with some Indian companies. We have done some
work for HP-ISO as well. Our dedicated eTeams and eDevelopment
centres allow us to provide clients unparalleled levels of
service and attention. Since we are focused on developing
applications utilising a PLC (product life cycle) approach,
our teams care about long term reliability, scalability and
robustness of our clients' products. We ensure that the applications
we co-develop can stand the test of time. This reduces support
and development costs both in the present and the future.
Are you looking at acquiring any Indian company?
Acquisition is one of the modes for growing fast, but we would
rather like to acquire talent by hiring local developers.
