to co-host fourth SEPG conference
QAI
India, one of Indias premier IT consultants and Software
Engineering Institutes (SEI), in association with the Carnegie
Mellon University, US, is organising the fourth Software Engineering
and Process Group (SEPG) Conference. Held across the world,
the conference brings together leaders who present their views
on issues that have a significant bearing on quality and productivity
in software.
The first leg of the Conference journey starts from Bangalore
on March 1 and will address problems faced by the IT industry
in the country and showcase Indias leadership in software
engineering and management.
Intelligroup implements SAP R/3 for Fuchs Lubricants
Hyderabad-based
Intelligroup Asia, a fully owned subsidiary of Intelligroup
Inc, recently completed a successful go-live of its SAP R/3
version 4.6C with add-on Country India Version (CIN) 4.0A
for Fuchs Lubricants (India), within a period of three months.
The three-month implementation of SAP R/3 4.6C and CIN 4.0A
is reportedly one of the fastest of its kind in India.
The solution deployed by Intelligroup addressed Fuchss
stringent excise compliance requirements without utilising
third party products normally used in such implementations.
The fully integrated implementation captured core business
processes, including financial accounting, controlling, material
management, sales and distribution, production planning and
quality management.
Apple introduces new iMac
range
Apple
recently unveiled its all-new iMac range in India. In an effort
to make the system the hub of every digital home, the company
has added quite a few features to the product. All new iMac
models include iMovie2 (an easy-to-use video editing software)
and iTunes 2 (the digital music software that lets users put
an entire music collection on their Mac), burn custom CDs
and seamlessly sync with Apples new iPod portable digital
music player. Higher end iMac models are equipped with a SuperDrive
and include iDVD 2, so users can easily create and burn their
own custom DVDs that play in consumer DVD players. Besides
this, every new iMac is designed to run Apples new iPhoto
software (available as a free download). iPhoto helps users
easily import images directly from digital cameras, organise
and manage a photo collection (containing thousands of photos),
view cross-dissolved slide shows of their photos, automatic
creation of a Web page of their photos, order professional
quality Kodak prints.
MTNL to launch e-mail to phone services in Delhi
In
an effort to compete with private basic subscribers who are
all set to enter the Delhi market, MTNL is planning to introduce
e-mail to phone services for its Delhi subscribers. The facility
will enable MTNL Internet and phone subscribers to be notified
via phone every time they receive an e-mail on their MTNL
account. The subscribers can then hear the subject of the
message, the sender and even the contents of the mail, if
so desired. The system will convert the e-mail text into voice
and read it out to the subscriber. The service is expected
to go live in the first half of this year.

Apcom aims to double growth rate in two years
Chennai-based networking company, Apcom Computers, plans to
double its growth rate in the next two years. With this objective,
the company has invested approximately Rs 4 crore in its two
business segments Instant Replacement Anywhere (IRA) and DAX-TSE
(Technical Support Executive), which covers pre-sales and
post-sales support and includes awareness of the product,
installation and trouble shooting to name a few.

Hexaware sets up development centre for Valtech
Hexaware
Technologies, a division of Aptech, has set up a worldwide
development centre for Valtech, a $125 million e-business
company headquartered in France. The centre will be initially
staffed with 100 professionals and will be ramped up to accommodate
250 people in the next three years. It will service the latters
customers and focus on enterprise application and e-business
technologies. Hexaware expects revenues of $25 million over
a three-year period from this relationship.

CGE&Y to set up development centres in India
Management
and IT consulting firm, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young (CGE&Y)
plans to set up two development centres in India by 2003.
Of these, one will be the development and outsourcing centre
(Accelerated Delivery Centre) slated to come up by the end
of this year, and the other one a strategy incubation centre
(Accelerated Solution Environment). As part of its expansion
plans for the existing development centre in Mumbai, the company
will also set up a CRM Centre of Excellence by mid 2002
