TCS spreads wings to Melbourne

Circuit EC/Mumbai

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Asia’s largest global software and services consulting company, has announced plans for setting up a global development centre in Melbourne, Victoria, to provide high-end technical support services to clients in the Asia Pacific region. The announcement was made after a meeting of S Ramadorai, CEO, TCS with Marsha Thomson, Victorian Minister for Information and Communications Technology.

The proposed centre would employ up to 200 professionals, including software engineers and systems analysts, well trained in the quality processes required to deliver high-end technology work, which will be the focus of the centre. The initiative reinforces TCS’ philosophy of working closely with their clients across the globe, and creating centres of excellence around the world for the development of software solutions. The company has 141 offices in 24 countries, and is working on projects for clients in over 50 countries. It employs over 18,000 software professionals, over 150 of who are based in Australia, where the company began operations in 1985.

Speaking at the occasion, Ramadorai said, “We are extremely satisfied at the decision to open a global development centre in Melbourne. Melbourne has the right blend of the ingredients needed for the creation of excellent software. The surroundings are very pleasant, and the pool of talent available in the state of Victoria is substantial. The centre would be of assistance to the many clients we have in the region. We also see this as a unique opportunity to grow our client base here in Australia specifically, and in the Asia Pacific region generally.”
