Proud
to be Indian
With reference to your editorial, and especially on your exhortation
to the IT industry, asking us to do the country proud
once more, I think more than anything else it is now
time for them to realise that if they
want us to do the country proud, they
need do nothing more than just leave us alone to do what we
do best by ourselves. Have you ever wondered how and why suddenly
every ministry seems to be looking at becoming the ministry
taking not just the credit but also the ministry in
charge?
As for your views on pride and confidence, let me assure you,
it all depends on leadership. And leadership starts from the
top, in this case the figureheads leading the said infotech
companies. No other industry seems to depend so much on artistic
elements like human icons, while continuing to use more science
than art for the final product. Larry Ellison can strum the
guitar and go walk-about on sailboats, but boy, do his guys
slog!
So if an infotech company is headed by a person whose concept
of greed (face it, all of us are greedy, it is just the aspects
that change) has to do with earning a quick buck, then so
will his human assets. But if the leadership says, hey, my
greed is in pride and confidence, that we are as good as anybody
else while actually continuing to be in India, then for some
time they forget the crap on the roads and believe me, pride
and confidence comes rolling in. Double quick. And this is
such good business sense that people have to be blind not
to see it. Most are.
