According
to a recent report from the Hurwitz Group, Oracle has been
ranked first in application server penetration and planned
deployment rates, ahead of IBM and BEA. The report titled,
Application Server Market Share A Different Angle
cites the breadth of functionality in Oracles application
server, the low pricing and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
of the product, and Oracles leadership in the database
market as reasons for the companys momentum in the application
server market. Overall, Hurwitz expects Oracle9i Application
Server to maintain and extend its position in the rapidly
growing Application Services Infrastructure (ASI) market.
For
the report, Hurwitz Group surveyed 150 IT decision makers
in North America and found that of the companies that are
using application servers, nearly 37 percent deployed Oracles
solution, with IBMs WebSphere in second place with 27
percent of the respondents deploying the product and BEAs
WebLogic in third place with 17 percent.
Oracle
has, beyond a shadow of a doubt, penetrated more organisations
in North America than any other supplier of application servers,
the report states. Oracle possesses greater application
server market strength than many might have thought, and poses
a definitive threat to market-size based leaders.
Additionally,
the survey results highlight that Oracle9i Application Server
is ranked first by organisations in North America planning
to deploy an application server through 2002 50 percent of
the respondents plan to deploy Oracle. The report concludes
that Oracle offers a complete and strongly integrated horizontal
enterprise application story, and indicates that it is the
vendor demonstrating the biggest momentum in the application
server market.
