Alberg launches collaborative workspace, HIVE

S Prasanna/Hyderabad

lberg Software has announced the launch of its peer-to-peer (P2P) based collaborative workspace HIVE 1.1 based on Sun Microsystem’s JXTA framework. The product extends convergence of peer services with Web services for intra-company, B2B and B2C challenges. It facilitates easy integration of employees, trading partners, vendors, agents, clients, etc, within the existing infrastructure.

HIVE is claimed to be one of the first few applications in the enterprise P2P space. Part of the Sun ONE initiative, the product will be put under the spotlight on Sun’s JXTA.org website.

HIVE also has a suite of components to complete the process of enterprise business management. The absence of a critically managed server for regulating processes or for storage of data sets HIVE apart from similar client-server platforms. The product comes equipped with a set of utility components for instant messaging, discussion, file sharing, to-dos, photo album, file cabinet, outliner, address book, etc. Other features include knowledge assistant and mixed media communication tools such as audio, video and whiteboard.

Alberg has developed HIVE using the JXTA technology as a P2P infrastructure that provides the core services that make up a P2P application. The core services that are provided by JXTA are presence, edge resources, identity and XML-RPC communication.

Announcing the launch, Dr Prasad, president and CEO, Alberg Software, said, “The Sun ONE platform offers an effective way for the convergence of peer services with Web services and applications, which are an integral part of any system built on a service driven network. This integration enables us to deliver a unified infrastructure with reusable components extending powerful services that are cost-effective and suitable for an enterprise.”
