Canon launches mobile printer

Circuit EC Mumbai

After mobile phones, mobile fax machines and wireless Internet, Canon India, a 100 percent subsidiary of Canon Inc, best known for its printers has added one more weapon to its armoury with the launch of its new mobile printer, the BJC-55. The printer is a travellers delight weighing just 900 grams which includes the weight of the battery. Half the size of an A4 paper, this full-featured portable printer is claimed to be Canon’s answer to the best solution in mobile printing.

Says Alok Bharadwaj, general manager-system product division, Canon India, “The BJC-55 is a convenient travelling companion with IrDA interface, a re-chargeable battery and a compact universal adapter. It can print wireless, from a notebook or handheld PC, thanks to the inclusion of the IrDA 1.1 interface. The Lithium ion battery makes the printing cordless, relieving the executive from the bother of carrying too many cables around. With its compact universal adapter, the BJC-55 can operate in any country, irrespective of voltage standards.”

Equipped with a USB port, the BJC-55 can connect to a variety of operating platforms including Windows 98, Window 2000 and Mac OS and also transforms into a high-resolution Scanner within minutes with a simple switching of its printing cartridge with IS-12 scanner cartridge which is available as an option. It provides mobile scanning with 360dpi scanning enabling one to easily scan photographs and maps and incorporate them into documents, all while away from the office.

With a printing speed of 5.5 ppm (page per minute) in monochrome and two ppm in colour, and 720X360 dpi (dots per inch) resolution, the BJC-55 offers desktop performance. “The printer,” adds Bharadwaj “incorporates Canon’s patented Image Optimiser technology that smoothens jagged edges of pictures.” The Drop Modulation Technology that produces micro ink droplets in different sizes to improve resolution enables the BJC-55 to provides realistic photo-grade printing even of pictures taken from digital cameras, websites and other low-resolution sources.

The BJC-55, according to sources, can print on a multitude of surfaces such as Coated paper, Glossy paper, High Gloss Film, Transparencies, Fabric Sheets and T-short Transfer material. The Lithium ion re-chargeable battery can print up to 100 A4 size sheets per charge. BJC-55 comes with a one - year warranty and is priced at Rs 19,995 (excluding taxes) by Canon. It is available at all Canon retail outlets across the country.
